Asha's Inspiration

Friday, March 13th, the day Mayfair High School was closed due to COVID19, sent waves of fear and uncertainty through me.

All that everyone was talking about and texting about was CORONAVIRUS.  The number of hospitalizations and deaths due to COVID-19 quickly skyrocketed. It was all overwhelming!

I decided to unplug from technology for a while so I grabbed crayons, markers and construction paper and began making "cheer up" cards for the unfortunate people in the hospital.

My entire family joined me around our kitchen table, and we produced about 18 cards that night. I found card- making fulfilling and  therapeutic.

In the days that followed, I decided to recruit my high school Track & Field and Volleyball teammates to join the activity.

I also recruited other school friends and childhood comrades who eagerly agreed to participate.  I, then, reached out to my younger siblings’ friends and they too jumped on board, often joined by their siblings and parents.

What started out as 18 hand-made cards has blossomed into over 2,300.
